Israeli intelligence spy arrested in Ardabil, northwest of Iran
The Ardabil Province Prosecutor General attributes the successful arrest operation to "the tactfulness of the provincial prosecutor's office and the swift action of the intelligence forces."
An agent for Israeli intelligence was arrested by security forces in the city of Ardabil, northwest of Iran, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported on Wednesday.
Iranian media cited the Ardabil Province Prosecutor General Jalal Afaghi as confirming that the suspect, from one of the southern provinces of the country, was wanted by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence.
Afaghi attributed the successful arrest operation to "the tactfulness of the provincial prosecutor's office and the swift action of the intelligence forces."
"Through one of the social networks, he was in contact with high-ranking officers of the Mossad, and under the guise of doing editorial job, he would collect information needed by the Mossad from inside the country," he explained.
The Iranian official also revealed that the suspect attempted to flee the country but was apprehended in an ambush.
