A number of Lebanese army soldiers were martyred and others were injured on Saturday when unexploded ordnance from a previous Israeli attack detonated on the outskirts of Majdal Zoun in South Lebanon, Al Mayadeen’s correspondent reported.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made a phone call to Army Commander General Rodolphe Heikal, who briefed him on the details of the tragic incident in Majdal Zoun that hit a unit of the Army Engineering Regiment while its personnel were working to disable and remove the ammunition.
On his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam paid tribute to the fallen soldiers on X, writing: "With pride and reverence, we bid farewell to the brave sons of our army who were martyred in the south while performing their national duty. Their pure blood proves that our army is the safety valve of our nation and the protector of its sovereignty and unity. May God have mercy on the heroes of Lebanon."

'Israel' opens fire in southern Lebanon
Shortly after the blast, Israeli occupation forces fired bursts of machine gun fire from the Radar military site toward the outskirts of Shebaa, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in the south.
The escalation comes amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon. The Lebanese Health Ministry announced Friday that six people were killed and ten wounded in an initial toll from an Israeli strike on the Masnaa road in eastern Lebanon. Another civilian was killed in a separate Israeli air raid on the town of Kafr Dan in the Baalbek district.
Also on Friday, a Lebanese citizen was killed in an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle moving on the Ansariyeh road, along the Zahrani-Tyre highway, Al Mayadeen's correspondent in South Lebanon reported.
This constitutes another violation of thousands by the Israeli occupation against Lebanon, with nearly 240 civilians killed and others wounded since the ceasefire was brokered on November 27, 2024.
