Israeli oil tanker struck in drone attack off coast of Oman
Israeli media reports that an Israeli oil tanker has been hit by an explosive drone off Oman; the incident is being investigated.
Israeli media reported that an Israeli oil tanker was attacked by a drone off the coast of Oman. Reports clarified that an armed drone attacked Liberian-flagged oil tanker Pacific Zircon, which is operated by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, and ultimately owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade said, as quoted by AP, "we are aware of an incident and it’s being investigated at this time."
Eastern Pacific Shipping said in a statement that the Pacific Zircon, which was transporting Gasoil, was "struck by a projectile" around 150 miles (240 kilometers) off the coast of Oman.
"We are in communication with the vessel and there are no reports of injuries or pollution. All crew are safe and accounted for," the company added.
It is worth noting that the MarineTraffic.com satellite tracking data from late Tuesday showed the vessel deep in the Arabian Sea after leaving the Omani port of Sohar.
