Israeli war on Lebanon, Palestine must stop immediately: PA President
The President of the Palestinian Authority has called for an end to the genocidal aggression on Lebanon and Palestine at the UNGA.
The Lebanese people are being "subjected to a genocidal war" by the Israeli regime, the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas said during his speech at the general debate in the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
Abbas said that "Israel must stop the war on Lebanon and Palestine," adding that the Palestinian presidency condemns this aggression and demands that it be stopped "immediately."
He pointed to the immense destruction caused by the Israeli onslaught on Gaza, saying the Strip is "unrecognizable."
"If Israel thinks that it would escape accountability and punishment for these crimes, then it is delusional," Abbas underlined.
International community must take action
"The international community must immediately impose sanctions on Israel," he urged, adding that governments must stop arms supplies to the Israeli government.
Abbas also called for the establishment of an international peacekeeping force which he claimed "guarantee the security of both countries."
Moreover, the Palestinian president repeated his call for an internationally-backed visit to the Gaza Strip that he would lead.
"Regarding what needs to be done now and on the day after the war, we demand that the State of Palestine take responsibility in the [Strip] to exercise its full sovereignty over it, including the border crossings, foremost among them the Rafah International Crossing between Egypt and Palestine, as part of a comprehensive plan," he said.
US stands alone in relentless support to 'Israel'
Abbas also said that the "US stood alone and said 'No the fighting is going to continue," in reference to its vote against a UNGA decision aimed at urging "Israel" to pull out of the occupied 1967 Palestinian territories within a year.
Although the decision was passed, it is non-binding and the US' position on the matter is of utmost importance since it holds the power to veto binding decisions in the UN Security Council.
The Israeli occupation has been launching a genocidal war on the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, after years of a strict siege debilitating all essential sectors in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli aggression, in its maximal form, has extended from Gaza to the West Bank and later Lebanon, where it continues to commit daily massacres undeterred by international law and covenants.
