Israelis underestimated Hamas goals of obliterating 'Israel': Analyst
The barrier of fear, which had allegedly existed for years, had been broken in Gaza, describing this change as "dramatic and not promising," Channel 12 expert Ohad Hemo said.
The specter of security failure still looms over everyone's heads in occupied Palestine, from politicians to security agencies, the military, and beyond, as Israeli analysts delve into the causes and effects of the October 7 operation.
Expert on Palestinian and Arab affairs at "Israel's" Channel 12 Ohad Hemo gave his take on the matter by asserting that the triggers of the October 7 operation had been clear all along, but they had not been correctly interpreted or understood at all.
During his discussion, Hemo recalled the Jewish holiday of Passover as being "different this year," while questioning the values of freedom as he raised concerns over the fact that "133 Israeli captives remain within a few hundred meters, at most a few kilometers, from Israeli soldiers for over six months, and Israel is unable to rescue them."

He also remarked that the barrier of fear, which had allegedly existed for years, had been broken in Gaza, describing this change as "dramatic and not promising."
"How could the tiny Gaza Strip dare to start a war against the strongest power in the Middle East?," he said.
He further noted that this war was different from all previous wars which were limited in scope to mere rocket attacks, and that Gaza had this time declared a full-scale war on "Israel" with the specific aim of destroying it.
He went on to say that the Hamas leadership strongly believes in prophecies predicting "Israel's" imminent collapse, referencing speeches held by Hamas officials in Gaza and even sermons by Hamas preachers in the Gaza Strip accompanied by a clear knowledge that "Israel will disappear soon."

Analysts from Channel 12 clarified that this affirmation "was not a desire, but rather a clear understanding that it is meant to happen," pointing out that this explains the conference held by Hamas two years ago, where they were already preparing for the day after "Israel" would be destroyed and Palestine would allegedly be emptied of Jews.
They added that "scaling the wall" is prohibited by the Jewish faith. In other words, "the people of Israel should not take their destiny into their own hands, but salvation will come from heaven". But the other hand, "Hamas scaled the wall or practically broke it and detonated it".
Therefore, according to Ohad, if anything deserves to be learned from the past six months, "it is the need to listen to what is said on the other side, not to diminish the value of words, and to understand that whoever wants to [achieve a goal], may also succeed [in reaching it]
