Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio announced in an interview published on Friday that a summit of the G20 on Afghanistan will be held following the United Nations General Assembly session, which ends on September 30.
The Minister told the daily La Repubblica that a G20 summit will be held after the United Nations General Assembly session in New York, which he will participate in next week.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, a meeting of G20 foreign ministers will be held to prepare for the special summit.
Di Maio confirmed that Italy, which is the president of the G20 for this year, has asked the United Nations agencies and non-profit organizations operating in Afghanistan to participate in the meeting.
