Journalist Alexander Fedortchak of the Izvestia media group was killed while covering events in the Luhansk and Kharkov regions, following an artillery strike by Ukrainian forces, Russian media confirmed.
Fedortchak's last report aired on March 23 from the Kupyansk front. The Russian Defense Ministry is currently investigating the exact circumstances of his death on March 24.
Born in Crimea, Fedortchak initially worked as a newspaper correspondent before transitioning to television journalism several years ago.
Russia will request that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and UNESCO take a position on the killing of Izvestia journalist Alexander Fedortchak, who was killed in an artillery strike by Ukrainian forces, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced on Monday.
Speaking to Russia’s REN TV, Zakharova emphasized that Moscow will not merely inform international organizations but will actively push them to respond and take action.
"We will not limit ourselves to notifying the relevant international organizations; we will insist on their engagement and reaction," Zakharova stated. She stressed that the OSCE, UNESCO, and other specialized institutions are obligated to present a clear stance on the incident.
In response to his killing, Al Mayadeen Chairman of the Board of Directors Ghassan Ben Jeddou expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with Izvestia and its media family, offering personal condolences to Izvestia's General Director Vladimir Tulenev.

Al Mayadeen's Chairman of the Board of Directors Ghassan Ben Jeddou
Following is the text of the letter in English and in Russian
We are deeply saddened by the killing of Izvestia media group journalist Alexander Fedortchak during his coverage due to artillery shelling by the Ukrainian forces, as confirmed by Russian media.
We express our full solidarity with Izvestia and its media family… My personal condolences to my brother, Vladimir Tulenev, Director of Izvestia.
The targeting of journalists once again proves that Nazi forces, wherever they may be, disregard international laws and do not respect the legal, professional, and ethical immunity of journalists.
The defense of humanity in general, and the right of journalists to fulfill their duty in reporting facts on the ground, has become an urgent cause for global media institutions opposing occupation and fascism to unite around.
Strength to Izvestia and our fellow colleagues and friends in the Russian media.
Ghassan Ben Jeddou
