Japan's Emperor Naruhito, along with Empress Masako, will visit Indonesia this month, marking his first state visit since ascending the Chrysanthemum Throne in 2019, as per the Japanese government.
The trip, which will extend from June 17 to June 23, comes after Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako received an invitation from Indonesian President Joko Widodo in 2022.
"The visit will further strengthen the intimate relations of friendship and goodwill with Indonesia," Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a statement.
The royal couple has moderately resumed public duties after limiting them during the pandemic.
It is worth noting that Widodo was invited by Kishida to the Group of Seven meetings that took place in Hiroshima last month, along with representatives from a number of other strong emerging countries.
