A Jordanian source confirmed Thursday the details of an incident involving Israeli soldiers crossing into Jordanian territory late last month.
According to the source, the event took place on August 27, when eight Israeli soldiers crossed the border a short distance. Jordanian border guards immediately detained the soldiers, the source told the Jordanian media group, Al Raya.
Investigations and release
The source added that following security investigations, authorities determined that the soldiers had crossed the border unintentionally. As a result, they were released and handed back to the Israeli side in line with existing security border agreements between the two parties.

Media reports
The Israeli daily Haaretz also reported on the incident, confirming that Israeli troops had been stopped by Jordanian forces for several hours after crossing into the Wadi Araba region in the south. According to the paper, the soldiers had entered Jordanian territory without authorization or the knowledge of their commanders and were intercepted a few hundred meters beyond the border line.
Heightened security along the border
Jordan shares a 482-kilometer border with Israeli-occupied territories. Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Tel Aviv has increased its presence along this frontier, deploying artificial intelligence-powered systems, drones, and various sensors to monitor activity, according to Israeli media reports.
