Khamenei: The Attack on the Mosque in Afghanistan is Bitter and Painful
The leader condemned Friday's attack on worshipers at the Khan Abad mosque in northeastern Afghanistan, hoping for authorities to punish those responsible for it.
Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei described the explosion of a mosque in Khan Abad as a "bitter and painful attack".
In a statement issued, Khamenei added, "We expect Afghan officials to punish the perpetrators of this major crime and prevent its recurrence."
Yesterday, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif condemned in the strongest terms the bombing that targeted the Afghan mosque during Friday prayers, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.
Al-Azhar affirmed its categorical rejection of all acts of violence and terrorism that target places of worship, stressing that the “deviant” perpetrators are the farthest from Islam’s true teachings, notably as they attempt to deliberately distort its image.
The state-run Bakhtar news agency in Afghanistan reported that a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in the Kunduz province, northeastern of the country.
ISIS subsequently declared its responsibility for the attack.
Al Mayadeen's reporter stated that at least 100 people were killed and wounded, making it the deadliest attack since the withdrawal of US troops.
