Khatibzadeh: Far from Reopening Embassies in KSA, Iran
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Saeed Khatibzadeh, says that Iran and Saudi Arabia are achieving preliminary agreements in the negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Saeed Khatibzadeh, announced that Iran and Saudi Arabia have reached preliminary agreements, noting that "we are far from reopening the embassies in Tehran and Riyadh."
In a statement to the Iranian Mehr Agency, Khatibzadeh confirmed that Iran has conducted four rounds of dialogue with Saudi Arabia in Baghdad, "but communication is still continuous between us and the Saudi government."
He also added, "We made preliminary agreements during the talks, and are waiting for them to be final. We did, but there is still time before we can reopen embassies in the two countries; we can say that we can start preparing for this stage soon."
Moreover, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein AmirAbdollahian announced today the start of " talks with Saudi Arabia," describing them as "positive" and adding that "there has been no constructive behavior by Saudi Arabia toward Iran in recent years.
It is noteworthy that on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rome on Saturday, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, said that "negotiations with Iran are friendly, but they have not made much progress."
Last April, the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, said during a television interview broadcast by the Saudi media that "the Kingdom aspires to establish a good and distinguished relationship with Iran as a neighboring country."
In this context, Tehran has repeatedly stressed that it always welcomes dialogue with Riyadh and it is ready to "conduct talks with Saudi Arabia at any level," stressing "the importance of dialogue among the countries of the Islamic world to solve current problems."
