Kuwait's Emir Accepts Government Resignation
Following Kuwait's government crisis with the opposition in Parliament, the Emir accepts its resignation.
Kuwaiti Emir Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah accepted on Sunday the government's resignation and instructed the government "to act as caretaker until the formation of a new cabinet," according to Kuwait's KUNA.
Prime Minister Sabah al-Khaled al-Sabah tendered the government's resignation on November 8, following a row with Parliament's opposition.
The government has been embroiled in a confrontation with opposition legislators, who insisted on questioning Prime Minister Sabah al-Khaled al-Sabah in Parliament.
Kuwait's Cabinet approved Sunday the pardoning of some Kuwaiti nationals and sent requests to the Emir so that the pardons may be issued.
Al-Qabas revealed that some of those pardoned resided in Turkey, while others were sentenced on political grounds, including some who were accused in the storming of Kuwait's Parliament in 2011.
Kuwait's Al-Rai daily had published the names of the Kuwaiti nationals included in the pardon, some of whom were embroiled in a number of cases, such as the 2016 conviction of the "al-Abdali" cell, which comprised 25 Kuwaiti nationals and one Iranian.
