Lavrov bashes futile US attempts to dominate the world
The Russian FM denounces "the policy of lawlessness demonstrated by the US colleagues who are seeking to establish their dominance" on the global stage.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday that attempts by the United States to establish dominance in every corner of the globe are futile and reflect Washington's policy of impunity.
The remarks came during his meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of ASEAN events in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh.
During the meeting, the Russian minister repeatedly stressed on "the policy of lawlessness demonstrated by the US colleagues who are seeking to establish their dominance" on the global stage.
"Each time, everyone who is keeping track of those events, realizes the futility of policy, according to which one can turn a blind eye to a situation, a crisis brought about by the US, and expect things to be more or less fine. No, the Americans have set a course for cracking down on any form of self-sufficiency," Lavrov said.
He added that "this was the case when they tried to turn Ukraine into a threat for the Russian Federation and ignored the racist policies of the Kiev regime, who sought to eliminate everything Russian. This was also the case with Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan when they ignored the principles they had publicly declared and had assured everyone of their steadfast commitment to them.”
Lavrov concluded by saying that "this was exactly the case in Ukraine when the US violated the principles of indivisible security”.
It is worth noting that Russia underlined on Tuesday how the United States was bringing instability to the entire international arena, accusing Washington of destabilizing the world over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Taiwan, which has been causing concern in China and the United States alike.
"Washington is bringing destabilization to the world. Not a single resolved conflict in recent decades, but many provoked ones," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
