Lavrov: Too early for mediators in negotiations between Moscow, Kiev
Russia's Foreign Minister says Moscow wants an answer on the latest version of the draft peace agreement.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that it is premature to talk about mediators in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
"We are ready for negotiations, if someone has interesting ideas, we will be ready to listen to them. Ukrainian negotiators did not talk about mediation as such, at least now, at the previous stages ... It is too early to talk about mediators at this stage, in my opinion," Lavrov told reporters following a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Moscow.
Lavrov said that Russia first wants to receive an answer regarding the latest version of the draft peace agreement, which Ukraine had received from Moscow over 10 days ago.
For his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres suggested that a humanitarian contact group be created that would bring together Russia, Ukraine, and the UN.
The purpose of this group will be to look for opportunities for the opening of safe corridors and organize a local cessation of hostilities, and guarantee that these are actually effective.
