Libyan MP Ibrahim al-Darsi disappeared after his home was stormed
Benghazi authorities announced the disappearance of Libyan MP Ibrahim al-Darsi after his home was stormed, denying the news circulating about his death.
The Libyan Ministry of Interior, affiliated with the government appointed by the country's eastern parliament, announced on Saturday the disappearance of Ibrahim al-Darsi, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives, in the city of Benghazi. The ministry refuted circulating reports claiming his death.
According to a press statement from the Libyan Ministry of Interior, the Benghazi Security Directorate received a report regarding the disappearance of Member of Parliament Ibrahim al-Darsi. The statement indicates that al-Darsi was reportedly robbed after entering his house at night.
The Libyan Ministry of Interior affirmed that it has "taken immediate steps to investigate this incident." It specified that the Benghazi Security Director, the Internal Security Service, and the Criminal Investigation Service were tasked with launching a thorough and urgent investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding al-Darsi's disappearance.
In its statement, the Ministry of Interior "categorically denied news circulating about his killing," emphasizing that "this news is completely untrue." The ministry urged the media and citizens not to be swayed by unreliable rumors.
Libyan media quoted parliamentary sources confirming loss of contact with al-Darsi.
The Libyan Al-Wasat portal reported that a parliamentarian confirmed "the loss of contact with his colleague al-Darsi since Thursday evening," and added that "the parliamentarian, who preferred not to disclose his name, confirmed that al-Darsi's car had been found in the Sidi Faraj area, east of Benghazi."
The anonymous MP also disclosed that "al-Darsi attended the celebration held in Benghazi yesterday to commemorate the Battle of Karama, and he was fine until eight o'clock in the evening. Then he could not be reached by phone, and his phones were turned off." It was further indicated that "the relevant security authorities in the city were notified to search for him and determine his whereabouts."
