Lukashenko announces working to equip army with S-400 missile systems
Belarusian President announced that the country plans on purchasing Sukhoi-30SM fighters and dozens of helicopters among S-400 missiles.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced on Tuesday that his country is on the course of equipping the army with the S-400 missile system.
A correspondent for Sputnik reported that the Belarusian President announced the country's plans for the coming years include the purchase of Sukhoi-30SM fighters, dozens of helicopters, and the Tor-M2 systems for the Belarusian army.
Lukashenko divulged that Belarus is planning on supplying the army with the latest and widest range of weapons, adding that work is currently being done to acquire the S-400 Triumph and anti-aircraft missile systems.
It is noteworthy that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko previously affirmed that Belarusian troops will fight alongside Russian troops if Ukraine launches an attack on the Donbass region.
“The Belarusian army will act in exactly the same way as the Russian army, it will be a joint response. Do you think we’re joking around on the southern border today?” he said in an interview, in reference to the Allied Resolve-2022 joint drills with Russia.
Lukashenko stated that if the Ukrainian government had intended to terminate the violence in the Donbass area, it would have done so by now.
"What we can do? We have President [Vladimir] Putin, we have President [Volodymyr] Zelensky, [Belarus] will do whatever they want. There is only one goal - peace in the Donbas region. We are ready to do everything [for it]", Lukashenko said.
On Sunday, Belarusian Defense Minister Victor Khrenin said in a statement that "the presidents of Belarus and Russia decided to continue inspections of the readiness of Union State forces."
This comes at a time the US military put 8,500 troops on high alert for a possible deployment to Europe, according to Pentagon.
