A poll carried out by the BVA group, on a sample of 1,002 French adults on April 18th, revealed that Macron's popularity among the French has deteriorated to a record lowest after he passed the contentious pension reform bill.

"[The rating] of the president is at its lowest since 2017, 26% [of French citizens] have a favorable view of him," the survey reads.

The results of the survey show that Macron is generally perceived in a negative light by most French citizens.

  • 26% have a favorable view of Macron
  • 32% have mostly negative views of Macron
  • 41% have very negative views of Macron

In regards to legitimacy:

  • 36% think Macron still maintains authority
  • 84% think that Macron is distant from the people

In regards to the government's recent decisions:

  • 63% are in favor of persistent protests against the government to force them to repeal
  • 45% expressed that they were enraged by the government's decisions
  • 38% expressed that they were concerned about the situation

Macron's popularity has reportedly never been this low since the peak of the Yellow Vests protests back in 2018.  However, the poll showed that Macron's electoral base is generally consistent with their stance on him: 70% of those who favored Macron in the first round of elections back in 2022 still support him.

On April 7, a poll conducted showed that more than 60% of the French believe that President Emmanuel Macron has become more authoritarian since taking office in 2017.

The poll, which was conducted by ViaVoice for the Liberation newspaper, also revealed that 72% of participants believe Macron has done less to bring people together than he did at the start of his first term, and over 60% have doubts about his capacity to address the nation's economic problems. According to 55% of respondents, Macron's overall professional performance declined.

Only 15% of French believe that Macron is relatable to regular people, a drop of 11 percentage points from September 2021. It is worth noting that the survey was carried out between March 31 and April 4.
