Medvedev: European parliament can 'go to hell' over gold demand
The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council dismisses the European Parliament's demand for Russia to return gold and cultural artifacts to Romania.
Former Russian President and current Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev told the European Parliament to "go to hell" after they demanded Moscow to send 91.5 metric tons of gold and cultural artifacts that had been exported to the Russian Empire in 1916-1917 by Romania, which the deputy dubbed as "not a nation, but a way of life."
"Well, I don't even know what to answer to such insolence," wrote Medvedev in a post on VK, adding, "The EU stole 300 billion dollars worth of assets from Russia and asks to return the gold to Romania."
The Deputy laid out a brief and bold historical context to the the EP's demand saying, "They want to return the gold to Romania, [gold] that the Soviet government nationalized in 1918 for bad behavior, and refused to pay the debts of the collapsed empire. Romania accepted it and then received from us a refusal of reparations on the results of its Nazi period during the Second World War. Well, now the appetite of various morons from the European Parliament has been whetted again."
In that context, Medvedev noted "There is nothing to say in Russian," adding, "In general, go to hell."
