The Lebanese town of Maroun al-Ras, located near the Israeli settlement of Avivim, held a mass funeral on Sunday for 20 fighters who were killed in battles with Israeli forces during Operation People of Might, which saw Hezbollah confronting the Israeli occupation's aggression on Lebanon.
The funeral procession included a pledge of allegiance to the fallen, prayers, and a speech by Lebanese MP Hassan Fadlallah, a member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to the Resistance bloc. The martyrs were then laid to rest in the town’s cemetery.
Fadlallah emphasized Lebanon’s responsibility in confronting Israeli aggression, stating, "We have placed the burden on the state to address these violations, and a national decision at the highest levels is needed to respond to these attacks."
He also warned against US-Israeli attempts to pressure Lebanon into political decisions that contradict the sacrifices of its people. "This enemy will never have a political foothold in Lebanon," Fadlallah asserted.
The funeral came amid ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon. On Saturday, two people were killed in Israeli drone strikes on the towns of Yater and Meiss al-Jabal, as Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement continue.
A Lebanese citizen was killed in an Israeli drone strike in the eastern neighborhood of Mays al-Jabal, southern Lebanon when the drone targeted him with two missiles as he exited his car. Meanwhile, another drone strike targeting a vehicle in the town of Yater, also in southern Lebanon, resulted in one martyr and one injury.
This comes amid near-daily violations of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon by the Israeli Occupation Forces, who have been using drones to strike civilians in southern Lebanon, while three committees were formed to resolve outstanding issues between "Israel" and Lebanon.
Lebanon committees' roles on unresolved issues
The formation of three committees by Lebanon to resolve outstanding issues with the Israeli occupation comes in continuation of the implementation of UN Resolution 1701, Al Mayadeen reported as per its sources on March 12.
With details provided to Al Mayadeen indicating that the committees remain closely tied to Resolution 1701 and do not involve direct negotiations between Lebanon and "Israel," and with sources affirming that they are not a means of normalizing ties with the occupation while dismissing all related rumors as false, the context surrounding their role becomes clearer.
Aiming to resolve three key unresolved issues, the committees focus on matters related to the occupied Palestinian-Lebanese border, disputes over border sites that have remained contentious since the 2006 war, and the five occupied positions following the recent war, with the issue of Lebanese detainees held in "Israel" also set to be examined.
