Muqtada al-Sadr Announces Participation in Iraqi Elections
The leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, calls for wide participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and says, "We will contest it with unparalleled vigor and determination."
The leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced today his return to participate in the Iraqi elections.
"We will enter these elections with vigor and determination," al-Sadr said.
He also called for wide participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq.
An Iraqi political source close to the government said a few days ago that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, may abandon his desire to hold the legislative elections on its scheduled date on October 10 if al-Sadr does not want to participate in it.
Sputnik quoted the source saying that there are two important sides in the elections, which are the Sadrist movement and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, noting that the absence of the Sadrist movement will push Al-Kadhimi to back his support of holding the elections on time since he is supported by the Sadrist movement.
It is worth noting that on July 15, Sayyed Muqtada al-Sadr announced that he will not participate in the upcoming elections, and will not support any party.
