Netherlands plans to host 2 NPPs by 2035 for 'sustainability'
Talks have already been held between Dutch Energy Minister Rob Jetten and provincial authorities, on issues including financial matters
Media outlets reported on Wednesday of plans by the Dutch Cabinet of Ministers to build two nuclear power plants (NPP), with intentions to begin operations in 2035.
The intended location of the NPPs is in the village of Borssele in the province of Zeeland, according to Dutch broadcaster RTL Nieuws, which is considered the preferred location to operate since it also hosts the only operating NPP in The Netherlands from the mid-1970s.
Talks have already been held previously between Dutch Energy Minister Rob Jetten and provincial authorities, including private parties, on issues including financial matters. According to RTL Nieuws, Jetten believes the construction will be complete by 2035.
“We are fully committed to wind, sun, and other sustainable energy sources. But you also want a stable CO2-free energy source in that energy mix,” Jetten stated, according to NL Times.
It is reported as well that the final fate of the construction will take place during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday.
