Hezbollah Politburo member Ghaleb Abou Zainab affirmed that Lebanon will not normalize ties with "Israel" in an interview with Al Mayadeen on Saturday.
Abou Zainab asserted that Lebanon rejects normalization with "Israel"', "The Lebanese state is fully aware of what the occupation is trying to do in its push for normalization. The country's leaders understand this issue well, and Lebanon will never become a puppet state that obeys the Americans."
In the context of the latest Israeli aggression on Lebanon, the Hezbollah Political Bureau member highlighted that the Israeli airstrike on Beirut's Southern Suburb is "one of the facets of the Israeli predicament," noting that "Those overseeing the ceasefire monitoring committee—namely the United States and France—must act to deter the aggression."
He clarified that the Israeli entity perpetrates violations like this one, "For a variety of considerations, some of which are internal and others that exert pressure on Lebanon to push towards softening the state's position and steering it toward a new attempt at normalization."
As for the official Lebanese position, expressed by President Joseph Aoun, a member of Hezbollah's Political Council stated that it was "clear, frank, and transparent." He added that the Lebanese state had "previously announced that Hezbollah strictly adheres to the ceasefire agreement and does not commit any violations."
This comes amid heightened aggression in Lebanon, as "Israel" targeted Beirut's Southern Suburb in the middle of the day. Since the beginning of the ceasefire, the prospects of normalization of ties between Lebanon of "Israel" have been heavily discussed in the media, including Israeli media. Abou Zeinab's statements were made to reject such prospects.
'Israel' strikes Beirut
After three Israeli drone strikes on March 28, Israeli occupation forces bombed and leveled a building they had previously threatened in Hadath, located in the southern suburb of Beirut.
The building that was destroyed in Beirut is situated next to two schools, as the bombs were dropped during a school day in a usually crowded area, during rush hour in the holy month of Ramadan.
Simultaneously, the occupation launched a wave of heavy airstrikes across south Lebanon.
This follows the Israeli military spokesperson's claim earlier on the same day that two rockets were launched towards norther occupied territories, one of which was intercepted while the other fell on Lebanese soil.
Security Minister Israel Katz, addressing the incident, compared Lebanon's capital, Beirut, to Kiryat Shmona while issuing a warning against the city, stating that if calm is not maintained in Kiryat Shmona and the settlements of Galilee, then Beirut will not experience calm either.
Katz pinned the responsibility of every firing toward al-Jalil to the Lebanese government, saying, "We will not allow the return of the reality of October 7, we will guarantee the security of Galilee's residents, and we will work against every threat.
