A senior Palestinian Resistance official told Al Mayadeen that the Israeli delegation’s negotiations with Qatari mediators in Doha have not resulted in any progress.
The senior official held the Israeli side responsible for the deadlock, citing the delegation’s insistence on avoiding discussions about the second phase of negotiations.
According to the source, the Israeli delegation has demanded the release of a large number of captives in exchange for the release of a limited number of Palestinian prisoners.
Additionally, the delegation has requested an extension of the first phase of the agreement without moving forward with further negotiations.
The Palestinian leader noted that the visit of US envoy Amos Hochstein to Doha could improve the conditions for negotiations.
Meanwhile, Hamas official Abdul Rahman Shadid announced the start of a new round of ceasefire negotiations on Tuesday, emphasizing that Hamas was engaging responsibly and positively in the talks, including those with the US envoy for hostage affairs.
In a press statement, Shadid expressed hope that this round would lead to tangible progress toward the second phase of negotiations, paving the way for an end to the aggression, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and a prisoner exchange deal. He stressed that the US administration bears political and moral responsibility for its unwavering support of the Israeli occupation in committing crimes of killing and displacement against the Palestinian people.
Shadid also reaffirmed that Israeli forces continue their aggressive policies against Palestinians in the West Bank, occupied al-Quds, and Gaza, including killings, displacement, home demolitions, and mass arrests.
He further noted that the closure of Gaza’s border crossings, the prevention of humanitarian aid, and the electricity blackout have persisted for the tenth consecutive day.
