NSA Deputy Chief: Lack of US 'readiness' against adversaries worrying
When asked what keeps him awake at night, NSA Deputy Director George Barnes said the lack of the United States' readiness to respond to foreign adversaries' actions.
On Wednesday, National Security Agency (NSA) Deputy Director George Barnes said that the lack of the United States' readiness to respond to foreign adversaries' actions keeps him up at night.
During an interview, Barnes was asked what keeps him awake at night.
A Politico reporter quoted him as answering, "The aspirations of the adversaries, their preparedness for action and our lack of preparedness, still, to respond."
However, Barnes also said that the US maintains a technological edge over competitors like Russia or China, with other nations trying to buy or acquire US advancements, adding that the NSA is preparing to handle possible threats to the 2022 US presidential election, after applying the lessons the country learned from the 2016 election cycle.
