At the initiative of and in cooperation with Che Guevara Foundation in Cuba, on the 95th birth anniversary of Ernesto Che Guevara, symbolic chess tournaments in dozens of world capitals were decided to be held, and Al Mayadeen Media Network was the Arab partner to take part in this occasion.
This intellectual game was particularly chosen by the Foundation, a vanguard in preserving the legacy of the revolutionary Che Guevara, being the game that he loved, enjoyed playing, and excelled in, knowing that he played in professional chess tournaments.
Under the supervision of the Lebanese Chess Federation, a number of Al Mayadeen staff participated in the competition that was organized by the media network, where participants competed in six rounds that witnessed an enthusiastic atmosphere, in the presence of Cuban Ambassador to Lebanon, Jorge Leon, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Mayadeen, Ghassan Ben Jeddou.

He recalled that Che used to preside over major chess tournaments that took place in Cuba with the participation of thousands of players and used to encourage individuals on taking part in such events.
In conclusion, Leon thanked Al Mayadeen Network for hosting the tournament.
