Palestine presidency accuses 'Israel' of plunging region into 'abyss'
The spokesperson of the Palestinian Presidency says the Israeli government is not committed to peace, which cannot be achieved without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
There would be "neither peace nor security for anyone without the establishment of a Palestinian state" in line with international legitimacy, stressed the Palestinian Presidency, in response to the Israeli Knesset's approval of a draft resolution rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Official presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh described "Israel’s" ongoing aggression, targeting children, women, and the elderly, as terrorism.
He pointed out that the existence of the Palestinian state is recognized globally, with 149 UN member states acknowledging the State of Palestine.
Abu Rudeineh stressed that pouring international recognition of the State of Palestine affirms that establishing an independent Palestinian state does not require approval or legitimacy from any single entity.
The Palestinian official emphasized that the Knesset's decision demonstrates "Israel" and its ruling coalition's determination to plunge the entire region into an abyss, holding the US responsible for its bias and unwavering support for the Israeli occupation entity.
The presidential spokesperson indicated that the Israeli occupation government is not committed to peace, which cannot be achieved without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with the eastern part of occupied al-Quds as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
Abu Rudeineh recalled that UN Security Council resolutions, General Assembly resolutions, and international consensus have elevated the State of Palestine to an observer member at the United Nations, with its flag raised alongside those of other recognized nations.
Elsewhere, he called on countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so immediately and support its full membership in the United Nations to protect the "two-state solution" plan and uphold the rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to self-determination.
The 120-member Knesset late on Wednesday passed by 68 votes to nine a resolution that said a Palestinian state would "perpetuate the Israel-Palestinian conflict and destabilize the region."
"The Knesset firmly opposes the creation of a Palestinian state (on land) west of Jordan," said the resolution, referring to the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
It claimed that "the creation of a Palestinian state in the heart of the land of Israel would constitute an existential danger for the state of Israel and its citizens, would perpetuate the Israel-Palestinian conflict and destabilise the region."
