Palestinian FM hopes for a ceasefire before Ramadan
Palestine's Minister of Foreign Affairs labeled the Palestinian factions' meeting in Moscow as an "important indication."
Palestine's Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Maliki expressed hope today that a ceasefire would take place before the beginning of Ramadan.
Speaking with Sputnik, he stated that the Palestinian factions' meeting in Moscow last week conveys Russia's seriousness and desire to do its best and overcome all obstacles towards ending the Israeli genocide against Gaza, labeling the latter step "an important indication."
He added that after the meeting in Moscow, Russia adopted a final statement which was also a very fruitful move.
Netanyahu does not want to stop the genocide
According to a senior Palestinian Resistance source, ceasefire negotiations are being stalled by "Israel", and it is clear to mediators that Israelis and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are intentionally disrupting any serious negotiations.
The source told Al Mayadeen yesterday that Israeli media was spreading misinformation about the discussions, adding that promoting erroneous information is part of a larger narrative that favors Netanyahu's political interests.
The source explained that Netanyahu opposes discussions that result in a deal that guarantees disengagement from the Gaza Strip, return of the displaced, reconstruction, and the lifting of the siege.
Netanyahu is primarily concerned with protecting his political future at the price of Palestinian lives, said the source.
When in Moscow
Palestinian factions gathered in Moscow expressed gratitude to the Russian leadership for arranging meetings, and appreciated Moscow's stance in support of the Palestinian cause, as stated in a collective statement following discussions in Moscow on Friday.
This comes as a three-day inter-Palestinian gathering, initiated by Russia to facilitate consensus among different Palestinian factions concerning the genocide in Gaza, commenced on Thursday.
"Palestinian factions gathered in the city of Moscow expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Russian leadership for organizing the meetings and for its position in support of the Palestinian problem," the statement said.
In the statement, the factions agreed to continue ongoing discussions to achieve national unity, stressing that their objective is to address the termination of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip and guarantee unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance.
