Peruvian organizations call for popular mobilization against Boluarte
Peru’s unrest continues unabated amid calls for a new wave of protests calling on President Dina Boluarte to resign.
The First National Meeting of Regions and Organized People was held in Lima on Sunday during which social organizations throughout Peru vowed to renew local protests calling on President Dina Boluarte to resign following the ouster in December of the country’s former leader Pedro Castillo between July 19 and 28.
According to social media reports, representatives from all the regions of Peru attended the meeting, including from Puno, Cusco, Apurmac, Arequipa, Ucayali, Pasco, and Junn, among others, who stood out during the December 7 mobilizations.
The participants urged the recovery of the sovereignty of the people and demanded the resignation of Boluarte, the closure of Congress, the release of the detainees, and justice for the civilians killed by the Army and the Police during the mobilizations.
The upcoming round of demonstrations -- the National Day of Permanent Popular Mobilization -- will be centered in Lima where representatives of many groups, including agricultural, union, and regional organizations, will assemble.
It is anticipated that the combat commandos in each province will send delegations to the capital of Peru, where supplies such as food, tents, blankets, and other necessities are already being gathered.
Peru has been shaken by months of protests by supporters of former president Pedro Castillo, who was impeached and arrested after attempting to dissolve parliament and rule by decree.
