Pezeshkian: military cooperation with Russia will be strengthened
Iran's president has revealed the two countries have agreed to stop any operations aiding aggressors during times of war.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expanded on the latest efforts to establish comprehensive military and security cooperation between Iran and Russia, during an interview with Solovyov Live.
"Naturally, in all areas where we can help each other, including the military and security fields, we will strive to develop cooperation," the Iranian president said after signing a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"If other countries attack our nations, based on what is written in the treaty, we commit to not participating under any circumstances in operations that assist the aggressors," Pezeshkian revealed.
The new accord, signed by Tehran and Moscow, aims to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including trade, energy, defense, technology, and infrastructure, with a focus on constructing the North-South International Transport Corridor (INSTC).
The two countries are also set to expand their nuclear energy collaboration, with plans to build new small-scale and large-scale nuclear power plants. The announcement came from the Director General of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev during Iran-Russia negotiations on January 17, 2025.
Likhachev stated, "Our Iranian partners called for the development of bilateral ties in the field of building small-scale nuclear power plants and building a new site for large-scale power plants." He also confirmed that talks on constructing another large-scale plant will begin soon.
