PIJ forced ceasefire terms upon Israeli occupation: Nakhaleh
The leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement says the group forced the Israeli occupation to accept its conditions of a ceasefire under the threat of ending the talks.
The Palestinian Resistance imposed clear-cut conditions in its ceasefire agreement with the Israeli occupation after the aggression on Gaza, Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Secretary-General Ziyad Al-Nakhalah said Wednesday.
"This format was one we never previously attained, and we told the other party that they either accepted our conditions or we would back away from the negotiations," Al-Nakhalah underlined.
According to the PIJ chief, the format "was attained in the final moments, and we wrote every single letter. The blood of the martyrs is what contributed to this accomplishment."
"We did well in the political battle, and we imposed a decent deterrence equation," Al-Nakhalah underlined.
Meanwhile, the deputy chief of Hamas' political bureau, Saleh Al-Arouri, said during a gathering to commemorate the martyrs killed in the Israeli aggression that the "brothers in the Al-Quds Brigades are the ones who took the burden of this battle and fought it with valor."
"The occupation is scared and disturbed by the expansion of the West Bank's front," he said. "The PIJ was a match for this usurping entity, and it succeeded in imposing its conditions on it."
The Israeli occupation launched a five-day aggression against the Gaza Strip last week, targeting residential houses in the north, center, and south of the Strip.
In retaliation, Al-Quds Brigades and the Palestinian Resistance factions launched Operation Avenging the Free, in which it fired advanced rockets and missiles that bypassed the Iron Dome and targeted several Israeli settlements, occupied cities, and occupation sites.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed in the aggression rose to 33 martyrs, including six children and three women, and 147 people were wounded.
The Joint Operations Room of the Palestinian Resistance Factions in Gaza said on Saturday that Operation Avenging the Free was a new chapter of glory that the Resistance fought as a unified front.
In a statement, the Operations Room said although Operation Avenging the Free has ended, the banners will not and shall not be lowered, and the will to fight will not and shall not ever dwindle.
Egyptian media had reported that Cairo mediated a ceasefire between the Palestinian Resistance and the Israeli occupation that took effect at 10 pm Saturday.
The ceasefire agreement text stated that Cairo urged the two sides to implement the agreement and is working to follow up on that by communicating with them.
According to the text, the ceasefire between the two sides will be adhered to, and it includes stopping the targeting of civilians and individuals and the demolition of homes.
