PIJ, Hamas Cairo meeting 'extremely positive': Shehab to Al Mayadeen
The head of the PIJ's media office tells Al Mayadeen that the meeting was important, distinguished, and extensive, as it brought together senior leaders from the two movements.
The head of the media office of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Daoud Shehab, told Al Mayadeen that the movement is keen on the Egyptian role in the Arab arena, pointing out that Cairo continues its role in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Cairo had mediated a ceasefire between the Palestinian Resistance and the Israeli occupation, as a result of which, a five-day aggression against the Gaza Strip that left 36 Palestinian martyrs ended.
Touching on the meeting that brought together the leadership of the PIJ and Hamas in Cairo, Shehab said it comes within the framework of continuous consultation on all developments in the Palestinian arena.
He highlighted that the meeting was important, distinguished, and extensive, as it brought together senior leaders from the two movements at home and in the diaspora, as well as a number of senior officials handling the Palestinian file in the Egyptian General Intelligence Service.
Describing the meeting as "extremely positive", the Palestinian official indicated that the Cairo meeting brought together the Secretary-General of the PIJ, Ziad Al-Nakhalah, and the head of Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, as well as a number of members of the political bureau of each of the two movements.
Shehab told Al Mayadeen that the meeting dealt with a number of issues related to the Palestinian cause in particular, and other issues related to the region, in general, in addition to the current developments in the Palestinian arena.
He said the PIJ is keen on the Egyptian role, especially its fundamental and pivotal role in the recent ceasefire negotiations that followed Operation Avenging the Free.
The Palestinian official described the Egyptian role as important and decisive, in which the Palestinian Resistance reached a number of achievements, the most important of which is obligating the Israeli occupation to end its policy of assassinations and stop targeting civilians and homes.
Shehab said there were a number of files present at the table for discussion, as well as an agreement with the Egyptians regarding the need to unify the Palestinian stance in the face of the extremist Israeli government and its aggressive policies in the West Bank, occupied Al-Quds, and Al-Aqsa Mosque, in addition to its aggressive policy that affects prisoners.
He added that the PIJ delegation, headed by Al-Nakhalah, met with the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Minister Abbas Kamel.
He indicated that the PIJ delegation discussed with the Egyptian side all issues of common concern, including the political and field conditions, especially the recent aggression against Gaza, the assassination of Resistance leaders, and the current developments in the occupied West Bank and occupied Al-Quds.
Elsewhere, Shehab underlined that the PIJ movement confirmed its firm position in defending the Palestinian people, their land, and their sanctities.
