Poll: Most Americans say events similar to Jan. 6 likely to happen
A recent poll shows that about 37% of Americans, 47% of which were Republicans while 28% were Democrats, said they've lost faith in US democracy.
An Axios-Momentive poll revealed that 57% of Americans expect the reccurence of deadly incidents such as the January 6 attack on the US Capitol in the upcoming few years.
The poll also showed that about 37% of US citizens have lost faith in US democracy.
Biden "hasn't done enough"
In regard to the US presidency, the Axios-Momentive showed that fewer than six in 10 Americans say US President Joe Biden legitimately won the 2020 election. It is noteworthy that this number hasn't changed since last year's poll conducted before the January 6 riots.
Interpreting the results, Laura Wronski, senior manager for research science at Momentive, expressed that either Biden hasn't done enough or he never had a chance.
"The partisan division is still the story," she highlighted.
Currently, 55% of Americans accept that Biden had legitimately won the presidential race against Trump, compared to 58% back on January 4-5, 2021, a Momentive poll showed.
January 6 attack
Regarding the investigation of the January 6 riots, Axios pointed out that 58%, most of which were Democrats (88%), showed their support for the House Select Committee.
Similarly, "56% support the committee's ability to subpoena documents and testimony — and 51% support criminal penalties including prison time if witnesses refuse to comply."
The poll underlines that about 37%, 47% of which were Republicans, while 28% were Democrats, said they've lost faith in US democracy.
According to Axios, "Republicans are three or four times as likely as Democrats to say voter fraud is a problem in their state."
