Protesters in Iraq Demand Election Recount
Tribal Iraqi leaders are calling for new elections, and demonstrations are ongoing.
Demonstrations against the election results in Iraq continue as protesters demand a complete recount of the election results.
The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) began to study the appeals submitted and audited by the relevant department, as 181 appeals were presented to the Board of Commissioners.
During a press conference in Baghdad, tribal leaders from central and southern Iraq demanded that the elections be recounted as long as they are "in good hands." They called to develop "a parliament that fights corruption that has plagued state institutions, and a government that provides security and services to the Iraqi people."
Al-Rubaie: Manipulation of elections led to demonstrations
The leader of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Mahmoud Al-Rubaie, told Al Mayadeen on Thursday, that the manipulation of votes led to illogical results that are not in line with voters' true ballots, adding that in turn, led to several governorates and Iraqi masses rejecting the results.
The Higher Committee for Protests demanded the adoption of a comprehensive manual count in future elections.
The committee called the Electoral Commission's performance "a failure" and demanded the prosecution of its members.
