Raisi to Resume Vienna Talks, Affirms 'No Place for Nuclear Weapons'
Zohreh Elahian, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee, said that Raisi agrees in principle to continue the Vienna talks for the JCPOA.
Zohreh Elahian, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee, says President Raisi agreed in principle to the presumption of the Vienna talks on the JCPOA, saying the model will certainly change.
President Raisi will make sure that the Vienna talks are not "draining," said Elahian during an interview for Mehr News.
"Unfortunately, talks continued during the Rouhani administration with no results, and we will certainly not see that during the new administration," she added.
Elahian expressed her belief that Raisi's view falls in line with that of candidate Foreign Minister Amir Hossein Abdellahian, who has already presented a detailed plan for the administration's next round of negotiations.
Earlier, Iranian President-elect Raisi said the Iranian nuclear program was peaceful par excellence, adding that nuclear weapons are religiously forbidden. Raisi had also declared that Iran's defense strategy has no place for nuclear weapons.
He stressed that the nuclear agreement should be revived by Europe and the US: "The Iranian people demand that you fulfill your obligations."
In early August, Raisi stressed the importance of lifting all sanctions on Iran, saying they will support every diplomatic proposal that achieves this goal.
