Raisi meets with Palestinian Resistance factions delegation in Syria
As part of his two-day visit, the Iranian President meets with a delegation of Palestinian Resistance factions.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday met in Damascus with a delegation of Palestinian Resistance leaders at the presidential palace in Syria, in the presence of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
During his speech at the shrine of Sayyida Zainab, Raisi pointed out that "Palestine was steadfast in its resistance against the Zionist regime completely changing the situation," stressing that "the reigns today are in the hands of the mujahideen who aspire to liberate Al-Quds."
On Wednesday, the Iranian President arrived in Damascus on Wednesday as part of a two-day visit to Syria and held bilateral talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al-Assad.
This marks the first official visit by an Iranian head of state to Syria since the start of the global war on Syria. The last Iranian president who paid a visit to Syria was Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a year prior in 2010.
Iranian media reported that Raisi and Al-Assad signed 15 cooperation agreements and a memorandum of understanding for a long-term comprehensive strategic cooperation plan between Iran and Syria.
The memorandum includes cooperation agreements regarding railway construction, agriculture, oil, and mutual recognition of maritime certificates. Al-Assad considered that his Iranian counterpart's visit to Syria today is of utmost importance. The importance of this visit, he noted, arises from the profound bilateral relations between the two countries. "This profoundness is traced back to the past and is headed forwards confidently towards the future."
On his part, Raisi underscored how "Syria's government and people have overcome great difficulties," stressing that Syria was able to surpass these obstacles despite "the threats and sanctions imposed against it."
