Proactively involved
Last November, Russia and Cuba signed a program for mutual trade and economic cooperation until 2030, during a work meeting between Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Vice-President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas.
The agreement provides for the expansion of trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, facilitating trade and investment, and strengthening ties between business associations by creating an enabling environment for promoting closer ties between Russian and Cuban companies.
The meeting’s agenda also covered joint initiatives carried out by the two countries, such as projects to build solar power plants in Cuba, a full cycle agro-industrial complex for growing and processing sugar cane, producing fertilizer, and undertaking various infrastructure projects.

"It is a pleasure to note that our two countries have remained proactively involved with one another in this turbulent geopolitical environment, which reaffirms the allied nature of our bilateral relations," Chernyshenko said at the time.
"We view matters dealing with ensuring steady supplies of oil and petrochemicals, wheat and fertilizer as our priority considering their importance for Cuba," he continued.
On his part, Cabrisas praised the relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of following up on the mutual efforts to strengthen the ties.
“By working together we have been able to follow a coordinated approach. I am satisfied with the efforts we are currently undertaking,” Vice-President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba said.
