Reaction to Crimea blast exhibits Kiev's "terrorist nature": Zakharova
Russia's foreign ministry is weighing on the nature of the blast, which has also been described as a "declaration of war with no rules."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has slammed Kiev's statements, saying that Ukraine's reaction to the Crimea Bridge explosion speaks to the "terrorist nature" of its leadership.
“The reaction of the Kiev regime to the destruction of civilian infrastructure testifies to its terrorist nature,” Zakharova wrote on Telegram after the blast.
Three have been reportedly killed in the blast, according to Russian investigators.
Ukrainian officials have done all except openly and directly claim responsibility for the explosion. However, the political advisor to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Podolyak, posted a message on Twitter, calling the blasting of the Crimea Bridge just "the beginning."
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry also tweeted that “The guided missile cruiser Moskva and the Kerch Bridge – two notorious symbols of Russian power in Ukrainian Crimea – have gone down. What’s next in line, russkies [Russians]?”
On several occasions previously, Ukrainian authorities have promised to attack the Kerch Bridge which connects the Crimean Peninsula to the Krasnodar Region in Russia.
The explosion occurred around 6 am local time, partially bringing down the road on the part of the bridge used by vehicles.
According to the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee, a truck blew up as it was traveling along the bridge. CCTV footage confirmed this.
Russia's State Duma: Crimea Bridge blast "declaration of war"
“The terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge is no longer just a challenge, but a declaration of war without rules,” said Russia’s State Duma on October 8 after an explosion rocked the Kerch Strait crossing earlier this morning.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, Deputy Oleg Morozov said that the explosion showcases that “a blatant terrorist war is being waged against us.”
“Moreover, the long-announced terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge is no longer just a challenge, it is a declaration of war without rules,” he said, adding that if there is no "adequate" response, such acts of aggression would be more likely to occur.
