Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin announced, on Monday morning, that Wafaa Nayef Zuhdi Jarrar, 50 years old, was martyred due to a critical injury she had sustained during her detention from her home about two months ago.

The martyrdom of the 50-year-old mother of four comes as the result of a deliberate harm policy by the Israeli occupation forces followed by a policy of medical neglect in an attempt to relieve themselves of the blood-spilling they cause.

Israeli occupation forces arrested Jarrar from her home on May 21 during their aggression on Jenin and its camp, in the occupied West Bank. Later, they announced her injury, transferred her to Afula Hospital, and issued an administrative detention order against her for four months.

The serious injuries that she had sustained led to the amputation of her legs from above the knee, in addition to other injuries all over her body, leading to complicated health issues.

According to Israeli authorities, Jarrar was wounded as a result of an explosive that hit a military vehicle transporting her to a detention center. No further details were provided regarding the event and no Israeli troops accompanying her were wounded or killed in the incident.

Wafaa news agency reported later that Israeli occupation forces had released Jarrar after her injury led to the amputation of her legs from above the knee, leaving her to her own fate.

Her release by Israeli occupation forces was only to evade responsibility for her treatment in Israeli hospitals.

Hamas mourns martyr Jarrar

Following her martyrdom, Hamas issued a statement hailing Jarrar for her great sacrifices and efforts in support of the families of Palestinian martyrs and detainees, "and now she falls as a martyr as a result of medical negligence in Israeli jails."

Hamas called for increased efforts and solidarity events to support Palestinian detainees and to heighten confrontations against Israeli occupation forces (IOF).

In turn, the Jarrar family issued a statement mourning martyr Wafaa Jarrar and describing her as a "symbol of steadfastness and sacrifice."

The statement added that she succumbed to her injuries and died as a martyr "after more than two months of being injured and her two legs amputated, following her arrest from her house in Al-Marah neighborhood in Jenin on 21-05-2024."

Moreover, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, the Palestinian Society Prisoners Society, the Captive Movement in prisons, and liberated detainees in Palestine and abroad also mourned the martyr.

In a statement, they noted that her murder at the hands of the IOF stands as evidence of the continuous criminality of the occupation within the ongoing extermination against the people of Palestine and their cause.

'Israel' discards limbs, desecrates bodies

The Palestinian prisoners' organizations reported that the occupation forces have not yet returned the amputated legs of martyr Jarrar for burial according to Islamic customs. A lawyer had requested the return of her amputated legs, but a verbal response from a doctor at Afula Hospital indicated that they had disposed of the limbs.

This situation represents a further violation added to the series of offenses committed against her.

The occupation also reportedly failed to respond to the request for her medical reports. Another request has been made to clarify the events of May 27, 2024, the day her legs were amputated, which was initially performed with her family's consent.

It was later discovered that an additional amputation above the knee was carried out without the family's approval while she was under anesthesia. This constitutes another violation in the series of offenses committed against her.

The organizations emphasized that Jarrar's martyrdom occurred during a tough period for detainees in Israeli occupation prisons who were enduring severe abuse including torture, humiliation, starvation, and collective isolation, amounting to a form of genocide.
