Report Shows Increase in Child Sex Abuse Cases in "Israel": Media
Israeli Ministry of Welfare data revealed that in 2019 and 2020, "Israel" saw an increase in child sex abuse, and nearly half of them were committed by family members.
"Israel" saw a 24% increase in children and teenagers treated by authorities after being sexually abused from 2019 to 2020, the "Times of Israel" said, citing the Israeli Ministry of Welfare.
According to the newspaper, Israeli welfare authorities dealt with 2,839 minors who had been sexually abused during 2020, an increase from the 2,285 figure of 2019, as per the Ministry of Welfare.
Data released by the ministry showed that:
- 10% of the victims were between 3 to 6 years old
- 44% of the victims were between 7 and 12 years old
- 46% of the victims were between 13 and 17 years old
Data showed a similar boy-to-girl ratio until the age of puberty, where the majority of victims were female (60%).
According to the ministry, over 2,400 adults were treated for sex abuse in 2020 as well, while adults constituted 44% of the offenders and minors constituted 52% of them. "The identities of the remaining 4% are unknown," said the newspaper.
Data showed that nearly half the abuses were committed by family members, and some people were even abused by several people.
Experts suggest that the actual number of sexual abuse in "Israel" is much higher, for many cases go unreported.
