RFK says US lawmakers ignorant about impact of Ukraine on economy
Kennedy questioned if billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine were worth it to US taxpayers, calling politicians' disrespect for Ukrainian lives "revolting."
According to Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., some US politicians are unaware of the economic impact of the Ukraine crisis despite the donation of billions of dollars in aid.
In June, RFK Jr. described the war in Ukraine as an "abattoir" with a geopolitical goal that does not concern Ukraine.
Kennedy's Tuesday speech followed remarks by US Senators Mitt Romney and Richard Blumenthal, hailing US backing for Ukraine as a wise investment.
In a social media statement, RFK stated that both "Republican Sen. Romney + Democrat Sen. Blumenthal...display total ignorance of the impact of this war on the American economy."
Kennedy questioned if billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine were worth it to US taxpayers, calling politicians' disrespect for Ukrainian lives "revolting."
According to his press staff, Kennedy views Ukrainian participation in NATO as a needless provocation that risks triggering a nuclear confrontation with Russia. Kennedy's team stated that he believes in de-escalation and a negotiated solution that respects all sides' security and sovereignty.
Kennedy’s statement also comes as lawmakers consider a multibillion-dollar supplemental funding request for further Ukraine aid, as well as US disaster assistance. In addition, the Biden administration has requested the US Congress to pass a short-term bill to finance the federal government and avoid a potential shutdown.
The Pentagon has said it is confident in the US’ ability to continue supporting Ukraine through the end of the fiscal year and hopeful that Congress will approve the supplemental funding request.
Kennedy Jr. says Biden is preparing for war with Russia
In July, RFK Jr. described the decision of US President Joe Biden to deploy "3,000 reservists to augment US troops in Europe" as a troop mobilization to prepare for a direct war with Russia.
Kennedy tweeted that "President Biden just called up 3,000 reservists to augment US troops in Europe as part of 'Operation Atlantic Resolve.' I want people to understand what this troop mobilization is about. It's about preparing for a ground war with Russia."
This comes after Biden signed Thursday an Executive Order increasing the number of personnel engaged in Operation Atlantic Resolve in Europe by 3,000, according to the Joint Staff Director for Operations Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims.
