Russia Hands Over Satellite Images to Lebanon
Upon Lebanese President Michel Aoun's request, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announces that Russia has handed Lebanon satellite images of the Beirut port blast day.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib and held talks in Moscow on Monday.
The two ministers focused on the recent developments in Lebanon, Syria, and the region, in addition to bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said his country had handed over satellite images of the Beirut port blast day to Lebanon.
"At the request of the Lebanese government, today we handed over materials prepared by Roscosmos... satellite images, and we hope they will help in the investigation of the causes of this incident. This issue is now receiving quite serious attention in Lebanon and we hope it can be closed," Lavrov told reporters," expressed Lavrov.
Last month, Lebanese President Michel Aoun's formally asked Russia for the images.
Days ahead of the presidential request, Russian President Vladimir Putin had said on the sidelines of the Valdai meeting Moscow would review the possibility of helping on the probe into the Beirut blast, and it would provide Lebanon with satellite imagery, if available.
