Russia on Zaporozhye NPP: Western media must end Russophobia
Russophobia is the rhetoric used against Russia as Western media seeks to demonize the country.
The Russian Embassy in the United States has urged American journalists to abandon their "Russophobic" speculation about the attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power station (NPP).
"We call on the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] to condemn Kiev’s criminal acts and take urgent measures to prevent provocations at radiation hazardous facilities in Ukraine. As for American journalists - stop bawling Russophobic fabrications," the Embassy said on Sunday.
The head of the administration of the Zaporozhye Region, Yevgeny Balitsky, stated on Sunday that the IAEA is aware of the risks involved with the Ukrainian military shelling the Zaporozhye NPP but is not taking any practical action to prevent the attacks.
Earlier in the day, Enerhodar authorities stated that Ukrainian troops launched a nighttime attack on Zaporozhye NPP using an Uragan multiple rocket launcher, with shrapnel and a rocket engine falling 400 meters (1,312 feet) from the station's operating power unit.

According to Enerhodar's administration, if the unit is damaged, the lives of hundreds of thousands of citizens throughout Ukraine, Europe, and Asia will be jeopardized.
Zaporozhye NPP is located near Enerhodar on the left side of the Dnieper River. In terms of the number of units and overall installed capacity, it is the largest NPP in the European region.
The Russian military has been protecting the Zaporozhye NPP since March. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the Russian military guarded the NPP to prevent nuclear and radioactive material escape. The NPP is currently managed by a Ukrainian operator, according to the ministry.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian soldiers have attempted to strike the plant many times, most recently on Friday.
According to the Russian Embassy in Washington, western media are spreading misinformation about the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP.
Russia rejects claims it uses Zaporozhye NPP as military base
Earlier this week, Russia refuted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's claim that Russian forces are using the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) as a military base, according to a statement issued by the Russian Mission to the United Nations on Monday.
“We strongly reject such allegations. We repeatedly stated that actions of our Armed Forces in no way undermine Ukraine’s nuclear security or impede the routine operation of the NPP,” it said in response to Blinken’s speech made during the 10th Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in the United Nations Headquarters.
