The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it has prevented an attack planned by Ukraine in the Moscow Region on Friday.
"The Federal Security Service of Russia in the Moscow Region prevented a terrorist act planned by Ukrainian special services in a military unit of the Russian Ministry of Defense," the FSB stated, adding that a Russian Defense Ministry serviceman, recruited by Ukrainian intelligence to carry out a terrorist attack in a military cadet dormitory, was caught while retrieving explosive components from a hidden stash.
The Kiev agent involved in preparing the attack in the military unit belongs to an organization considered terrorist and banned in Russia, Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told RIA Novosti.
Petrenko stated that investigators found that the Russian soldier, part of a banned group, was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence agents via social media in March to carry out a terrorist attack on a Russian Defense Ministry military unit near Moscow. On April 2, 2025, the FSB intercepted the suspect after he received explosives.
The detained Russian serviceman was supposed to commit a suicide attack, the Russian Investigative Commitee stated.
"I met through Telegram ... a Ukrainian intelligence officer who told me to commit sabotage. I was supposed to wrap myself in explosives and detonate myself near targets on the territory of my unit," he said during interrogation, adding that he was promised the evacuation of his children to Western countries for the attack. The man has pleaded guilty.
FSB foils multiple terror plots planned by Ukraine
The Russian FSB has been intensifying its crackdown on Ukrainian special service plots, which were supposed to target official institutions with explosives and even chemical attacks.
On February 7, the Russian FSB announced that it arrested four female agents who were trained by Ukraine to carry out terrorist activities inside Russia, targeting high-ranking Russian officials and energy infrastructure in the cities of Sevastopol, Voronezh and Rostov-on-don.
The Federal Security Service announced on January 14 that it detained a suspect who was planning on conducting a chemical attack targeting Defense Minsitry employees in the Yaroslavl province under orders from Kiev, after the suspect “retrieved two containers of hazardous chemicals from a hideout made available by Ukrainian special services" the FSB reported.
