Russia summons Cypriot ambassador for forceful detention of journalist
A source familiar with the matter confirms that the Russian journalist is currently in the hospital with an injured arm.
The Cypriot Ambassador to Moscow, Kypros Giorgallis, has been summoned by the Russian Foreign Ministry for the forceful detention of a Rossiyskaya Gazeta journalist from the island of Cyprus, according to a source familiar with the situation to Sputnik on Friday.
The source stated: "On October 5, in Nicosia, a correspondent of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta, who was in a car parked near the house where he lives with his family, was forcibly detained. Force was used against the journalist," adding that the unidentified journalist is in a hospital at the moment with an injured arm.
Journalists hailing from Russia have been discriminated against, kicked out of events, and faced detentions after the war in Ukraine began last year.

Ukraine, for instance, has been targeting journalists, threatening them, and intending to kill many.
Back in July, the Russian security forces prevented an assassination attempt planned by the Kiev regime on the editor-in-chief of the RT broadcaster and Rossiya Segodnya media group, as well as a prominent Russian journalist, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said Saturday.
According to the FSB, the journalists that Kiev tried to assassinate are Margarita Simonyan and Ksenia Sobchak, respectively.
On the other hand, the US has been blamed by the Russian Embassy in Washington for the tragic incident involving RIA Novosti war correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev, who was killed while covering the ongoing Ukraine war.
The journalist died back in July during a strike by Kiev's forces, where Washington-supplied cluster munitions were used, and several other journalists suffered injuries, according to a statement at the time.
