A diplomatic source told Tass and Sputnik on Friday that Russia summoned the US ambassador in Moscow over the interference of US tech giants in elections in Russia, which is set to hold parliamentary elections toward the middle of September.
Russian news agencies had previously reported that Moscow summoned Sullivan due to his country failing to grant a press accreditation card to Russian journalists. The agencies did not specify which elections they meant the United States interfered in.
On June 24, the United States Embassy in Moscow announced that Ambassador John Sullivan returned to Russia after spending two months outside the country as part of the repercussions of the Biden-Putin summit held on June 16.
