Russia to IAEA: Do not Politicize Dealing with Iran
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to International Organisations in Vienna, called the Atomic Agency to strengthen technical cooperation with Iran.
“Do not politicize dealing with Iran,” said Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to International Organisations in Vienna.
In a speech to the IAEA Board of Directors, Ulyanov assured that queries regarding detected particles in Iran do not deserve such close attention by the IAEA, ensuring that they currently pose no risks in the framework of the non-proliferation goal.
The Russian representative spoke of obstructing the normal course of work due to the politicization of the subject, calling for further focus on the tasks at hand by strengthening technical cooperation with Iran.
Ulyanov also referred to the adverse consequences of any external political pressure, which could lead the issue to a dead end.
Last Sunday, the chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, confirmed that the talks with IAEA are good and constructive, noting the aim of these talks is to create a positive atmosphere of cooperation between Tehran and the Atomic Agency.
This came during a visit by the Director-General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, to Tehran with the aim of "reviving the nuclear agreement."
