Russia would respond to Finnish and Swedish NATO Membership: Medvedev
Russia should reconsider its relations with Finland and Sweden following their decision to join NATO as per Deputy Chairman of Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
Deputy Chairman of Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned that Russia will respond to threats posed by Finland and Sweden's accession to NATO.
Medvedev had arrived in Finland's bordering Karelia region earlier in the day to hold a security meeting and inspect a border checkpoint.
"As for our reaction to the entry of these countries into NATO, then, as the president of our country [Vladimir Putin] said, this reaction will be symmetrical," Medvedev said during a press conference.
Medvedev also stated that Russia should reconsider its relations with Finland and Sweden following their decision to join NATO.

It is worth noting that the accession protocols for Sweden and Finland have been signed by ambassadors from the 30 NATO members on July 5. The approval of their memberships by all alliance members is thus likely to take a few months.
Both countries have been repeatedly warned by Moscow not to join NATO. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in March that "there will be serious military and political consequences."
