Russian naval maneuvers to repel hypothetical attack in Baltic Sea
Russia announces the success of exercises to repel an attack by a hypothetical enemy sabotage group on a sensitive facility in the Baltic Sea.
Today, Saturday, Russia carried out exercises to repel an attack by a hypothetical enemy sabotage group on a sensitive facility of the military corps of the Baltic Fleet.
The Military Corps of the Baltic Fleet issued a statement saying, "According to the scenario of the exercise, the hypothetical enemy attempted to enter the facility to seize it. The soldiers of the duty unit conducted reconnaissance and isolated the hypothetical enemy sabotage group until the arrival of additional reinforcements."
The statement also added that "the mission successfully completed all combat training tasks to repel the attack and neutralize saboteurs."
These exercises are part of a series of military exercises carried out by various Russian Armed Forces units in different military regions, especially in the west of the country, in parallel with the continuing tension in relations between Russia and NATO, mainly on the borders with Ukraine and Belarus.
In parallel, the Pentagon announced today that large-scale NATO naval exercises will begin next Monday in the Mediterranean, with the participation of the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman, amid escalating tensions with Russia, which in turn announced simultaneous exercises.
Two days ago, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, in a statement, that it will conduct this January and next February huge naval maneuvers in all areas of the fleets' responsibility, with the participation of more than 140 warships and support ships, more than 60 aircraft, and 1,000 pieces. of military equipment, and about 10 thousand soldiers.
The Russian naval maneuvers come at a time when Russian relations with Western countries and the United States over Ukraine are strained, after accusations that Russia will "invade Ukraine".
It is noteworthy that Russia, Iran, and China yesterday completed the joint maritime security belt maneuvers in the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman, which aim to raise readiness and increase coordination between the navies of the participating countries.
