Mikhail Mishustin expressed his commitment to implementing Putin's initiatives which were outlined in his recent speech to the Federal Assembly.
The State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, has formally endorsed Mikhail Mishustin as the country's prime minister during a plenary session held on Friday.
Mishustin's approval follows President Vladimir Putin's submission of a proposal for his appointment earlier in the day.
"The State Duma [the lower house] of the Federal Assembly [the parliament] of the Russian Federation decides: 1. To approve Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin as the сhairman of the government of the Russian Federation. 2. To forward this resolution to the president of the Russian Federation. 3. This resolution comes into force from the date of its adoption," the State Duma’s draft resolution read.
In his address to the State Duma, Mishustin expressed his commitment to implementing Putin's initiatives which were outlined in his recent speech to the Federal Assembly.
Mishustin stressed the government's dedication to realizing these initiatives and achieving the country's new development goals.
"The government will make every effort to implement the initiatives that were mentioned in the president's address, as well as to achieve new, renewed development goals," Mishustin said.
" Russian President Putin signed a decree 'on the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation' … In accordance with paragraph 'a' of Article 83 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, to appoint Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin as Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation," the Kremlin said in a statement.

Prior to his appointment, the head of the State Duma's labor committee, Yaroslav Nilov, said that he supports Mishustin's candidacy for the premiership and expressed the belief that his colleagues in the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) will also support Mishustin.
"I fully support the president's proposal. Over the years, Mikhail Vladimirovich has repeatedly confirmed in practice his managerial competence in the most difficult and crisis situations," Nilov said on Telegram.
On March 18, Vladimir Putin emerged as the winner of Russia's presidential elections, and on May 7, he was sworn in as President of Russia, marking his fifth term in office.
