The Syrian armed forces have imposed impenetrable defense lines around Damascus, Syria's interior minister told state TV, as reports of armed groups nearing the capital sparked fear among residents.

"There is a very strong security and military cordon on the far edges of Damascus and its countryside, and no one... can penetrate this defensive line that we, the armed forces, are building," Interior Minister Mohammed al-Rahmoun confirmed, speaking to state TV from Damascus.

Similarly,  a spokesperson for the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces reaffirmed that the Syrian Arab Army was strengthening its defense lines around Damascus and the southern region, as well as executing operations against the foreign-backed armed groups in each of Hama, Homs, and the northern Daraa countryside.

The statement issued by the Syrian Army also warned residents of false reports and misleading footage published by the armed groups as part of the media war waged to fearmonger and incite chaos, in service to hostile agendas.

Syria Army redeploys in Daraa, Sweida, regaining control in Homs, Hama

Earlier, the Syrian Army confirmed that its forces operating in the southern governorates of Daraa and Sweida have carried out a redeployment and repositioning, establishing a strong and cohesive security perimeter in that direction.

A statement issued by the General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces said the redeployment and repositioning came after "terrorist elements attacked scattered army checkpoints and positions with the aim of diverting the Armed Forces," which have begun to regain control in the governorates of Homs and Hama.

The statement emphasized that the Armed Forces are addressing the developments with a focus on ensuring the security of the nation and its citizens and will confront terrorism with full resolve and strength.

While the Syrian Army is combating armed groups in the governorates of Homs and Hama, other militants in southern Syria are attacking army positions in Daraa and Sweida.
